Show Information

Main attractions

This year we have four main attractions, all coming from the United Kingdom (the “UK”).

Dancing Diggers

Diggerland Dancing Diggers Stunt Team

Our main attraction will be the Diggerland Dancing Diggers Team. The Dancing Diggers last appeared at the West Show in 2002. The team comprises of 5 giant JCB diggers and one mini Bobcat loader and operators have been handpicked from the large number of skilled JCB operators who work for the largest digger hire company in Europe, H.E. Services.

Further details can be found at: www.diggerland.com/visiting/DancingDiggers.htm.

Rockin Horse

Rockin’ Horse Productions

Appearing with the Dancing Diggers will be Rockin' Horse Productions - who last performed at the West Show in 2008. Quite simply the most spectacular rock show on horseback....ever!

Further details can be found at: www.rockinghorseproductions.co.uk.

Cyril the Squirrel and his Racing Terriers

Cyril and his amusing team of terriers have been established as the leading terrier racing display team in the UK for over 15 years. All of the little terriers are family pets and enjoy their lives out of the arena on a farm in West Norfolk.

See: www.cyrilthesquirrelandhisracingterriers.co.uk.

Hunt’s Racing Donkeys

The show will be home to donkey chariot racing for the first time in Jersey. Four riders will race against each other in chariots over a 90m course in four heats to be run each day. Winners of the four heats will then battle it out in the grand final.

Horticultural displays

Our large horticultural marquee will host a number of activities, including:

• A schools vegetable competition (in conjunction with the Jersey Farmers’ Union) - displayed in mini wheelbarrows.
• A schools carrot growing competition (in conjunction with the Jersey Farmers’ Union).
• The Jersey Rosarians annual rose show.
• Allotment, garden, and patio displays - these will be outside the marquee.

Environment and animals

Our environment marquee will provide a showcase for organisations which protect our Island’s environment and environments further afield. Participants will include Jersey Trees for Life, Société Jersiaise and Durrell.

Our animal marquee, will offer an opportunity to see Jersey farm animals and include a display by the Jersey Poultry & Ornithological Society.

Something for everyone

The show has its roots in the Three Western Parishes Show, so the JEP West Show centres around the annual West Show Association cattle show, which takes place on the first morning of the show. As well as bovines, there will also be a number of equine and canine demonstrations and displays, including Pony Club mounted games, show-jumping, and horse-shoeing. For those that prefer mechanical creatures, then there will be the usual displays of classic and agricultural vehicles.

Like past shows, there will be a heavy emphasis on fun for the younger members of the community. For the youngest, the show will have its own children’s area - including an entertainment marquee and programme (the latter involving professional entertainers), as well as the usual hay bales and donkey rides. And for children of all ages, digger rides and a Segway obstacle course will be on offer.

Eat and drink

There will be plenty to eat and drink at the show.

The Campaign for Real Ale (“CAMRA”) will be offering ales and ciders in two marquees, and Jersey wine and cider will also be on offer.

On the food front, there should be something on offer to please all palates, including seafood, barbecued food, Genuine Jersey produce, spit-roasts, crepes, hamburgers and hot-dogs, as well as Jersey ice-cream and Jersey wonders.

Traders

In addition, a number of large traders will be supporting the show. They will be joined by a number of smaller businesses, including Genuine Jersey traders.

Invitations have also been extended to a number of charities, non-profit organisations, and government departments and services to take part in the show.
